Baptism Inquiry

Please fill out this form and click submit.
Thank you for inquiring about Baptism at Saint Matthew Catholic Church. It is good that we are here, and that we may come together to bring another child into God's family and the Church. We ask you all these questions to help us gather the necessary information for the celebration of the Sacrament of Baptism. If there is anything here that is confusing or causes question, please not hesitate to call Kelly Ott to discuss at (615) 550-5141 or email her at kott@stmatthewtn.org. Thank you!
Health Concerns in the parish

We are currently conducting remote Baptism Preparation Sessions. Arrangements will be made individually for an in-person formation session.

As an alternative, one or both parents may take an online class by clicking here [please note that only one class needs to be taken].  Please forward the certificate of completion to kott@stmatthewtn.org.

Baptisms are being celebrated in the church.  The Baptismal Font has been emptied of water, cleaned, and is closed to use other than Baptisms. During a Baptism, the water used is new from the tap and is only used for that one Baptism.

Godparents

A godparent is a Confirmed Catholic man or woman willing to pass on the Catholic faith to the child being baptized.

In addition, the godparent is:

1. at least 16 years old
2. in Good Standing with the Roman Catholic Church; meaning that the potential godparent practices the Catholic faith;
3. is chaste to their state in life; and
4. is active in their parish.

Typically, there are only 2 godparents. In addition,
1. one is a man, and
2. the other is a woman,
3. although it is fine if there is only one.
4. The godparent(s) present are the names recorded (no proxy).
5. A Christian witness may be present but will not be recorded as a godparent.

Please click here Godparent Form for Baptism and print the form for each godparent. They will need to complete the form and submit to Kelly Ott before the baptism can be scheduled. Please contact her if you have any questions about naming godparent(s).
